Ray Steven’s theater early 90’s
When I was just a kid, I worked for Ray Stevens in his brand new theater. On a nightly basis you
would see UFO’s landing on the stage, and camels all over the bright read carpet. People were so excited
to be in Branson, and flocked to the 2000 seat theater. Traffic was a mess, but they didn’t car and would
fill up the multi layered parking lot. Ray was very reclusive and he would run with a security crew from
his upstairs office, to the main office below on the first floor. It was so people wouldn’t stop him and want
to talk, At the Grand opening, Burt & Lanni Anderson showed up, as well as Chet Atkins who he
introduces. Amazing musicians seemed to flock back stage. Including Glenn Campbell at one point. Ray
was selling 2,000 seats a night and 1000 seats during the day, and that was unprecedented. Unbeknownst
to anyone, Ray had a three year plan in Branson, and then he’d be gone, and sell the theater.
